Keynote Speaker - Ian Schreiber
Today we're announcing our first keynote speaker for the AltDev Student Summit. We wanted to find someone who was inspirational, a great speaker, and also had a good working knowledge of the realities of both the industry and gamedev education. Ian Schreiber more than meets all of these criteria, and we're delighted that he is willing to take time out of his hectic schedule to speak at the Summit. Ian's keynote is called "Thinking Three Moves Ahead".
Where do you see yourself in one year? Five years? Ten years? Thirty years? Now, how do you see yourself getting there? If some of the steps are "I'll figure this out when I get there" or "at some point a miracle occurs" or "I assume I'll learn how to do X eventually" then it's probably going to take you a lot longer to get to where you want to be. We will examine how to develop and cultivate a strategy that takes you from school to late-career in a way that maximizes your career and life satisfaction.
Ian is probably familiar to many of you as a high profile member of the development community, as well as having spoken at a variety of conferences including the inaugural AltDevConf earlier this year. Here is his full bio.
Ian Schreiber has been in the video game industry since the year 2000, first as a programmer and then as a game designer. He has worked on eight published games, two textbooks, two free online courses in game design, and several other things he can't talk about since he's still under NDA. He has taught game design and development courses at Ohio University, Columbus State Community College, and Savannah College of Art and Design. Even now, 16 years after finishing his undergrad degree, he still occasionally wakes up from that dream where he's late to a final exam for a class but he can't find it because he never attended lecture and can't remember anything about the material.
Please please make sure not to miss this excellent keynote that Ian is putting together. Register, for free, now through Eventbrite. For more information about the event, and to see a full list of speakers we've announced, please visit the mini-site.
